EPH makes another significant step towards clean energy future in Italy

EP Produzione, a subsidiary of EPH, continues to show its strong commitment to supporting Italy’s energy transition. In line with this effort, the Group has prepared five new projects that have been awarded contracts in the 2025 Capacity Market auction. Specifically, it has secured 15-year contracts for:
- 170 MW 2-hour battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects accross two sites:
- Fiume Santo power plant, marking a significant step in transforming the industrial site post-coal phase-out into a renewable/low-carbon integrated energy hub utilizing various technologies to enhance the island’s energy security and sustainable transition.
- Centro Energia Ferrara, by revitalizing an existing industrial area owned by the Group.
- Net power output increase by approximately 100 MW through projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency of its gas-fired combined-cycle plants (CCGTs). These upgrades will secure capacity for the Italian grid, improve efficiency, and reduce carbon emissions. NOx emissions will also be lowered with the installation of SCR catalysts.
The total investment for these projects amounts to 170 million EUR.
“We are very satisfied with these results,” says Luca Alippi, CEO of EP Produzione. “They will enable significant new investments, reinforcing EP Produzione’s role in the Italian electricity market by contributing to supply security and advancing the industrial future of our Fiume Santo site post-coal phase-out.”
“Since entering the Italian energy market, EP Produzione has been a reliable partner for the national energy system, proactively proposing solutions for a sustainable energy transition and decarbonization path in Italy,” adds Peter Černák, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EP Produzione and Member of the Board of Directors of EP Power Europe. “These new projects align with the EPH Group’s vision of achieving net zero operations by 2050.”
